• Two Intake Cams

I remember the big long thread back on TSN debating whether or not to replace the exhaust cam with another intake cam. I was wondering if anyone ever got around to running a Dyno with and without it. Also it got me wondering why saturn didn't just have two identical cams on all the DOHC motors and save the money it would cost having two different grinds, especially if there is a minor gain using the two intake cams.

because saturn doesnt care about performance gains, they are worried about reliability, emissions, etc...

Aint that the truth. The intake resonator looked like it didnt even belong there lol.

Intake cam for exhaust cam? Higher lift?

higher lift and longer duration. IIRC you set it 180* opposite and then retard one tooth. I'd assume saturn and GM would be cheap about it before they would consider performance at all, meaning one grind for all cams

has whoever that did already noticed any mileage changes. obviously it'll give better performance after a tune but will it affect gas mileage negetively?

what does mileage matter if your lookin for power, you have to sacrifice one for another (maybe not much of a loss but maybe a noticeable)

natedogg from TSN Buttdyno'd it and said that he noticed minor gians up top, a smoother idle, and said it didn't seem to affect gas mileage much. I'm just wondering if anyone has since gotten their car on a dyno with them

thats what I was wondering. maybe I'll try it. I've already got the MS to tune it. I could go to the junkyard and pull a cam in like 30min I bet, since I wouldnt be concerned w/ the timing. I just don't want to hurt my baby.

I would be a little worried, I am using the SAFC2 for fuel tuning(no timing ) I may have no choice but to convert to MS once I do go F/I.

I wouldnt waste my money on anything other than an MS. I'm telling you guys, its just not as hard as you think to get a MS setup running. The hard part is earning the money to buy the damn thing. Its also fun to tune it.

I was just trying to get to the point of if it had a performance gain and little to no mileage loss that it is odd why the car wasnt built that way in the first place.

                            TOM did this on TSN

he had a 92 DOHC and some how found that the ( 91 ) DOHC head come with the funkey intake cam

why I'm pointing out the 1991 DOHC part is he found that only the 91s had that cam ( as far as I can remember )

but you can do this swap with aney ( intake ) cam to gane the added over lap between the intake and exhoust cam

TOM was running a AUTO tranery in this car

but yes he did get a nice fealing from the "but-dyno"

and he hinted at the better MPG
