• header install Q.

    1. When i'm taking the old manifold off, what happens if the whole stud comes out of the head? When I put the header on, can I just screw the stud in like a bolt? Do I put any loctite on the threads?

    Thats all for now.

i just did a 92 header on a 97 sl2 i just reused it as long as the bolts and the nuts were messed up i reused them., saved me like 25 bux from buying new shit from dealer you only tighten them to like 37lbs so they arent meant to be that hard.

i had 2 that stayed in the head and i had 3 that came out all as 1 piece.

    no leaks or any problems.

Same with both of my cars. 2 stayed in the head, 3 came out completely. I've never had any problems with either leaking there. If you are really concerned you can get all new hardware but I don't think you really need it. I'm gonna do it on my rebuild though since everything else will be new.

when we replaced the stock manifold with a 91-92 header on the $2004 Challenge SL2, to save $ we reused *everything*. Can't remember for sure, but we might've even reused the gaskets.

Worked fine, no problems at all.

Does removing the studs let the magic smoke out?

No, it just makes it worse. Expect letters form the EPA now.
