  • short shifter vs. short throw shifter

    I've been tryin to find info on this issue but haven't had a lot of luck. can someone tell me what's the difference between a short shifter and a short throw shifter if there is a difference. thanx

      I think that some people use the term short shifter to refer to one whose only modification is some length cut off of the top. A proper short throw shifter also extends the distance between the cable and the main pivot (lengthens the bottom), raises the pivot slightly for additional clearance beneath, and often extends the bellcrank for shorter side-side throws

        I believe he is talking about the difference between having a true short throw shifter and just hacking off the top of the shifter.

        Tyler not trying to be hard on you, but if you do a search for short throw you will find numerous topics that will give you the infromation that you desire.

          i understand what you mean. but my reason for asking is that my friend said that there was a difference and i was trying to see if he's right

            it might simply be how someone is describing it (i.e. shorter knob height on a stock shifter as opposed to a shifter built to reduce travel of throws), or it could just be misinformation. regardless, daspirate's explanation is correct.
