• SMS monster block

So after reading the 88mm thread, he got me thinking that this is probably the way to go for bigger pistons for more compression without sacrificing block integrity. Is there anyone here that has or knows someone that has gone this route with N/A in mind?
Fixing a Saturn can be like reaching into a bag of scorpions and hoping for the tootsie roll.

AMR coilovers w/pillowball mounts, AMR FTB, AMR RST, Quaife, ACT clutch, HR con rods with JPC max bore pistons, Thermal exhaust, Hotshot header, AEM CAI, and I just want to run around tearing my cloths off, screaming beligerently, and spitting, and twitching, and foaming; because its finally done.

getting closer to a square engine will help. Of course, being overbored that much will put you well beyond 100% VE for the originally intended displacement.

Try it out.

lol

dude, you are willing to spend 1000 on a block for na? not to mention the pistons you are gonna need for that thing?

We don't got no VTEC, NA ain't gonna make enough power to justify the cost.

but whatever, your money

variable valve timing isnt much n/a. its the way the intake side is designed. sure variable valve timing increases air flow but isnt impressive n/a unless say the motor is HELLA BUILT! now variable valve timing under boost uuuuuuummmmhhhhmmmm. im not saying vtec, because other vehicles are the same way.

i was being sarcastic abut the VTEC, and TO ME, you need to run AT LEAST mid 12's on motor to justify that motor. You pull that off, you'll have my attention.

Considering the only weak points we ever really had were were diff pin and thin walls; everything else has been well beyond reliable. Yes, it would be a totally different engine. But an engine swap would cost just as much. I'm doing the math in my head..........but I really do think this would cost less then a boosting. The only real jump in price would be pistons and I don't think by much. I could forego a lathed down crankshaft, because I would need the extra metal for reliablility. Guys I think this might the route to go for a true engine. I think we've greatly overlooked the possibilities of this block.

I have to do some more research, I think I'll have to check out some big block forums.

By the way...........I think it's absolutely justifiable to buy that block. You figure you will spend 3k on just the basics of turbo. What's an extra 1k to make it bulletproof? Not much if you ask me. I'm starting this project next month, because I'll have another 1k to buy the block. Watch out for me, because I've just found my keystone to get this project going.

V V T under boost is weak, you have to do sooo much tuning with that shit to get it right. Now the new K series engines by Honda those work f...ing awsome under boost. But like I said I want N/A

What does VE mean???

More people have snapped rods then broke blocks. Stock rods at best are good for about 200hp. If you go with a monster sized bore you might as well scrap tour intake and TB. You'll never get it to breath.

for real, if you are gonna go "all out" why not custom intake manifold?

Really. I ran about 240whp for about a year on stock rods. They let go after running 15 psi for about 3 monthes at and estimated 280-300whp. Those rods had 200k miles on them when they crushed.

yea, I would think borderline for stock rods would be right around the 250 mark depending on the tune

How much milage did you have on them while they were on boost? Was it a daily driver or a weekend warrior. 3 months I'm guessing maybe 1200 miles if its a DD. Tops.
