for both the short shifter and tb, if your mechanically inclined, then there are some diy articles floating around the web on both, i think most of the guys here just ported out their tb themselves and for the shifter you'd need some welding skill or know someone who welds.
there is always http://www.saturnmotorsports.com http://www.spswebpage.com http://www.streetdesignauto.com for lots of performance stuff, i think the writeups i found were on http://www.qksltwo.com cant remember exactly and also check out the diy section oh this site too, lots of good info.

I gotta short shifter I'll sell ya. It's from MOS, supposedly the best shifters made for us, but unfortunately no longer made. For a bolt on TB, check out SDA. You can port it yourself and get maybe .5hp. Or like Tim said, a TB from a Geo will fit, but I think you will need to extend some of the leads for the sensors as well as fabricate a bracket for the throttle cable.

I was in the business of making shifters before TSN went down. I've got a core sitting around doing nothing, and I'd be glad to make you one. $80 shipped plus a $25 core charge.[16:02] Ferrari166mm: so you're finally getting into real cars.<br />[16:02] adamkob32: I've just had enough of racing a 100HP nutsack

do you have any exuast work done? cause the throttle body will probably give you about 1HP if the only thing you have done is the intake.98 SL2m - Intake, Raceland coilovers, daily driver

My Dad and I built our own, they came out similar to the MOS shifters. He has a write up on SaturnFans.com somewhere, I'll dig it up if your interested.

I'd say if you're gunna do the throttle body urself than go ahead and do it, but before you do that have a shop do a full 2 1/4" exuast, that'll help more than the throttle, plus if you know someone with a pipe bender and a welder you can just buy pipe and get them to do it for you. as for the short shifter, if you can make one or find one, go for it
oh and lilcraigford if you could find that write up that would be awesome. how much did that shorten the throw? cause i have my shifter chopped off about 3" right now and the throw is pretty short, but i'm always up for DIY projects cause i'm POOR right now. thanx.98 SL2m - Intake, Raceland coilovers, daily driver

1) If you're getting exhaust for an n/a car go with 2 1/4-2 1/2" mandrel bent piping (the smooth style bends). If you cannot find a shop that does mandrel bends, go with 2 1/2" crush bent piping. It wil flow almost as well as the 2 1/4" mandrel will.
2) By just chopping the top of a shifter off, you aren't doing anything to shorten a throw, just causing more force to be needed by lack of lever end.

You can't tell very well from the pictures, but it was really a matter of moving the central pivot of the shifter up (I think by half an inch) and then extending the lower pivot points so they were in their "stock" posistions. Vague explination... but I'm beat.
Actually, here is the the text:
Quick update: I forged ahead with my own short-throw shifter, cutting the lever down to 3.875" and raising the pivot points by .500". Rather than cut the lower half of the shifter off and weld in the half inch extention like I saw on one site, I added it to the end of the shifter and machined it, then drilled a new hole .500" down to preserve the integrity of the shifter. The 1/2-5/R selector got a piece of .500" .125" steel TIG welded in, and I also added a pair of .750" SAE 841 bronze bushings for the axle to pivot in instead of the plastic block. This gives it full support along the length of the axle, and will last for many years of shifting; there is also enough material on the stubby end for a 1/4-28 thread to install a retaining nut on. Another area that could use full support is the bushing that the shifter ball rotates in...I used a piece of .035" aluminum with a 1.375" hole in it to support the bushing all the way around rather than at just four points. The whole thing is bolted together with four 5/16-24 x 1.500" Grade 5 bolts with washers and nylon lock nuts.
I find that the biggest key to making anything work smooth as silk is careful hand-fitting of all parts and lots of patience, planning, and research. The throw is really short now! A bit notchy, but it shifts SO nice and has a very solid feel to it.
All I have to say is that I had a chopped dealy before I put together this one. This one isn't nearly as sloppy, very tight.

yeh, def go with the mandrel bent exhaust if you can get it. i have some money now so i can finally finish mine. also my shifting is slightly shorter because if you think about it there is less lever to throw(not too much though), but you're right it is harder to throw and it does have some slop to it, which isn't too nice. i was just amped at the time and wasn't thinking about that. i'll be going to the junkyard some time soon, so i'll be picking up a shifter assembly to start working on. this is one project i'll be taking a bunch of time with.98 SL2m - Intake, Raceland coilovers, daily driver
