    ok so this week i got my first car a 1997 saturn SL 5 speed i wanted to get it faster i have already put a cold air intake and exhaust. and i dont want to buy a DOHC like people told me to do. so what else can i do to get it faster.

    n2o or turbo... its a SOHC.. so it wont be that fast... when you say you did exhaust all i can only assume you mean you just put a muffler on it.. DOHC swap is the best way to make it faster tht is why you keep hearing it. You wont make a N/A SOHC fast.. Just my 2 cents

      You can make A SOHC a quick car, but the amount of money you would spend would be more than just swapping over to a DOHC. I think a N2O setup would make you happy for a little while, just remember you need to put down money to get any power, IMHO

        ok so a N20 system would be best i just put a new muffler it had the orignal and the car has 149000. what is a good site to see some n2o system and i was looking at a body kit and wanted to know if anyone has used it or heard anything about its made by Extreme Dimensions its the Bomber Body Kit i found it for $800 online is it any good

          Don't do it. Your car + n20 = death. Get a junkyard dohc, rebuild it ....right.....and then swap it in. ONce you have done that you will be ready to hit performance and will have way fewer problems cause you know what is going on already with the engine. I would really suggest spending the 3 months to go through that process and then get the n20 as a quick, easy way to horsepower.

            Oh yeah, HP that is reliable and you won't be handing out $1200 for a rebuild to someone who doesn't care about your car or your life..

              ya, seriously..by the time you spend money on the SOHC engine to make it almost as quick as youd like, you could of bought a dohc with some simple boltons and got way more hp to boot

                i just want it a little bit quicker i wanted to eventually use it for drifting so i wanted it a little faster so N2O is not that important. what about that body kit anyone use it or know how good

                  you need to look for another car then

                  you've got one of the worst performing combinations ever in a saturn, don't waste your money unless you take the above advice for a twin cam swap

                    ok so then i probably wont drift then cause i dont want to sell the car but what are some other stuff that i can do to give it more HP like better exhaust. and do any of you know about the body kit are you aloud to post links to other web sites

                        bolt-ons are going to marginally increase efficiency and in turn power, but nothing stellar and you'll still be slower than a stock DOHC swap would be for around the same amount of money.

                        your best bet for a body kit is ebay or google, search search search. if you must start a thread about it, do it in the appropriate section.

                          Is this guy for real or what??

                          Bad enough trying to add to a SOHC but then to add a big ass bodykit, on an already slow car, that makes sense.

                          As for the Drift......... buy a RWD.

                              I say he learns how an engine works first since it is clear that he doesnt even know what a SOHC head design is and WHY it is slow to begin with.
