hey guys! hows everyone doing?
i got a quick question... has anyone ran a stock scion tc?
i have an 04 ion sedan, stnd. trans. .. exhaust, intake, and ngk iridiums.. so roughly 150hp give or take a few.. the tc from manufacture is claiming about 160.. i belive it ran much lower than that on the dyno..
just woundering if anyone has ran a tc> got a friend of a friend talkin some serious shit.. and wants to run.. thinking about upping the stakes based on what the response is to this thread.... might make a lil extra money... lol
the dude with the tc is 100% stock.. but he is okay on the stick..
i think im better though..lol
thanks for the info...
trying to show some saturn power to those who doubt it!!!

1) lose the iridiums, they're not helping anything, and you may develop a miss over time if you already aren't, stock with stock plugs for now.

2) you're maybe putting around 150 to the flywheel. at the wheels more like maybe 125-128.

the Tc is claimed at around 160 flywheel, so at the wheels I wouldnt' be suprised to see about the same amount of power as you, but possibly less torque (you're most likely in the 130's at the wheels for torque).

honestly, don't bet money, you don't have enough modifications to warrant that. it's probably going to come down to a driver's race. I've run a guy with the same car three different times back when I had bolt-ons, and the second he walked me bad and was shocked.

now? forget it, I don't see them for more than maybe 1st gear if that.

well, thanks for the info guys..
i still might put a lil money on it.. like i said, i am a better driver than him.. so if like you said its a drivers race i deff. have the advantage..
will just have to show him what a saturn can really do.. lol
who knows.... i might lose some money... doubt it though if it is a "drivers race".. wont put more down than im willing to poss. lose...
thanks guys

last time i was at the track, i actually raced a near stock tC twice. (he had an intake and moofler, i have an intake and exhaust, so basically same mods you have). first race i won cause he had a fat guy riding shotgun. second race without his passenger he had a faster time than me, but was slower off the line. on both the runs i did 16.2xx (however, keep in mind that i have about 200 extra pounds due to 2 spare tires and my sound system in the trunk) he did a 16.7xx and a 15.9xx.

hope this helps. and don't bet any money. (and lose the spare tire before you run him )

well just keep in mind, you may be lined up to be punked too. I know in the past I drove overly shitty a few times with people so that they assumed the upper hand and didn't take the run seriously, but when it came down to it I walked away from them.

just don't be suprised if you get clowned, and good luck.

LOL... oh i know what you mean... and your right, i could get owned... but, i have seen him drive on multiple occasions.. "he was trying" and lets say hes not the best.. then again, im not either.. just better than him...
but, like you said.. u never know.. i might get smoked.. no telling..
just worried if it was even worth the gas... "if i had no chance at all" lol
i'll let yall know how it goes.. prob. run them tonight or this weekend...
hey i read you also had a 2.2.. and was thinking of some other mod to do in the next two months... what would you recomend..
already ordering MK1 short shifter..
thinking about...
pacesetter header, new throttle body, or torque brase through tourqeforward. not sure which one though... or can you give other, better ideas... trying to stay away from internal mods.. for now..

if you go with the pacesetter header, get the armor coated one, otherwise it wont' last long at all. if you're looking for a cheap exhaust side fix, look for a stock 2.0 (LSJ) manifold. it bolts up and flows better than the 2.2 for sure.

not a fan of torque braces, if you want less wheelhop and engine movement fill the front lower trans mount, or get one from a company that's out of polyurethane.

any suspension work done yet? springs would help you immensely, and not just in the handling department.

yeah i deff. was looking at the armr coated, ive already heard the painted turning to crap in a few months...
as far as suspension.. i sadly enough as of right now have nothing.. i was going to buy sprint springs.. but moved for school... now my stock height is almost too low where im out now.. lol..they all look at me funny out here in a car... lol.... stupid truck my saturn can off road too!! lol j/k well, tourqeforward also had strut bars, rear support bar, and motor mounts "urethane" which was going to to the one of the next buys... was kinda wanting to wait till the begin of next year to start on suspension.. ive also tried contacting them to find out about the application for those.. they show fot the RL, but not fo the 2.2.. but, i know theyre out there if tourqefoward doesnt have a product "if these wont fit"
right now, leaning more toward the header first, then the tourqe braces, or throttle body... i have wheel hop. but its managable.. just launch at lower rpm

I'll say it again, don't get the torque brace, there's other ways to get around wheelhop. I dont' like how it forces stress to two specific points of mounting. there were issues with the brackets breaking before, that should have been a sign that there is a lot of stress right there. you'll get the same effect from lowering with a filled tranny mount anyway.

if I was you, I would do the header or springs next, that's it, then learn to drive a lowered car and you'll be fine. I live in a huge city, if I can manage so can you.

I had a torque forward rear brace because my car has the rear beam assembly out of a redline, and it worked alright, after I rewelded it (I broke the welds on the bar ends within 40 miles of testing). I've also put in a few of the strut tower bars and those work fine as long as they're lined up properly, and they do work on the 2.2 and 2.0 configurations.

I know I'm busy but if you want a filled mount I do offer to do them for people. a lot of people complain that over time the polyurethane will fall out and such, but I must say, none of mine have fallen apart at all, and the one in my car has been in there for a few years now. keep in mind, you will have vibration to deal with, but if you can't handle that, don't bother doing many more mods to this car.

thanks for the info!!! yeah, once i finish my bach. degree i will have to drop it... out here theres huge rain run offs cut into about every street... not to mention the steap inclines.. once on them not a prob but getting on without scratching the muff. is a pain.. also the front bumber is already prone to scrapping on the roads out here... "its country, not a big city" i came from dallas were the roads were smooth for the most part.. out here, its a lil more difficult... lol..
also, thanks for the info on the braces... besides, like you said there is other ways to cut down on wheel hop...
i think for this step.. it will be the header..
then maybe the springs... thinking about getting a slightly taller tire than my low pros now then dropping... so actual ride hiedth wont be a drastic change..poss. drop it only 1-1.5 instead of the two'ith... but will still get the tighter suspension... could also raise the muff a tiny bit..not much.. poss. angle it instead.. "dont know how that would look though"

again.. i really appreciate the information... its a great help.. now i know about the braces..

well guys the verdict is in!
i showed up at his house with my friend, and got him outside..
after listening to some shit talked about my "slow ass" saturn we finaly stacked em up..
"he wouldn't put the money on it.. i tried, but then he started to hesitate the whole race" trying to say i did something else to the car..so i had to back out of that idea to save the race.... lol
we ran them for a length close to a half mile.. give or take a lil.... why? i dont really know??? lol we just kinda ran them until it was obvious there was no way in hell the other was catching up..(also because the street we use isnt much longer than a mile to a mile and a half) "good, smooth, no traffic though"
what happened???
i got him off the line bad!! he started to cath up as i was running through mid fourth...
so i down shifted it back into third for a lil more of the limiter i had left... went back into fourth, by now it was basically over.. i held him the whole time back at least at rear door to rear bumper..."if not more"
But as always.... out come the excuses... blah blah blah...
so we ran them again...
this time... ripped him on the jump... and held him back the whole time...
but like YOU said... it truly was a "driver race".. honestly a pretty good run.. had fun.. no tickets.. and more ego.. lol
i think somebody with a better stick might have truly given me a run for my money... i never had by more than close to a car length... next time i will be the one getting owned prob.... hopefully not though!!
yall take it EZ

not bad man. i have a 04 ion as well and have the typical mods and raced a couple on the interstae here. going from a 40 roll, it was a close race but in the end i had maybe a car lengh on it. they were side by side basically the whole way then at the end of 3rd and beginning of 4th i crept up.

Good job though, its the only way to learn!
