  • Probably a Dumb Question about Exhaust header

i got a 97' SC2, I was looking at doing after market exhaust on as something to start out with. I have read somewhere about people using the header off of like a 92' sc2 or something liek that. Which year is the one people r using? And is it basically like a straight replacement for the stock header on my 97' OR is there a bit of modifying involved. I tried searching this site but i wasnt about to locate it. Thanks for your help

You could do that, i don't know what your plans are, and how that header fits, but you could try getting an aftermarket header like an OBX or hotshot...You can get an OBX on ebay for about 150 bucks plus shipping or something like that. That's what i got for my 99 SL2, and it works great. So i guess it depends on what your plans are...Hope this helps at all.
SL2 a granny car? Hell no.

yes the 91-92 DOHC exhaust manifold works like a champ and is pretty cheap too. you would need to retain the bracket that bolts it to the underside of the engine/trans, and you also would need a older style oxygen sensor. you'd need to have the downpipe welded up to the cat also.

As Vinny said, if you are looking for a cheap mod, than the OEM 91-92 header is the way to go. You can pull one from a junkyard for around 20 -30 bucks.

sorry, I meant older style. you would want one for a 91-94 or 95, it has a different thread cut and such.

Yeah, don't worry, if you pull a header/downpipe/bracket from the yard just make sure you keep the 02 sensor that's in the pipe.

+1, and heres a list of what you need to get done

Mounting points for downpipe, or what I did was like a hanger thing with a hose screw clamp that sweeps under the pipe. There is also that area by the transmission that you can use too, just MAKE SURE YOU MOUNT IT, otherwise broken parts are in your future.

Want a the cat? Or need it for that matter? Advance auto parts has 'test pipes" (2 1/4 exhaust tubing) that you could weld up in place where you cat was. Plan on taking an ass-bust load of measurements, and be precise with them. Note though your car will be louder without the car. Make sure to chop off the flange from the cat too so you can weld it onto the test pipe.

The 92 sc2 oxygen sensor is what you want. I suggest Bosch.
