• Hood scoop!

I got this bad boy to bolt onto my 96. Took a few hours to cut, paint, bolt on. I think it was worth it, it seems like it picks up a little better throughout the whole range of rpms. I have pics, just wanted to get some opinions.

well, since i can't seem to figure out how to get pics up on here i'll just send you here------> http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2102098

Yeah, that is what I was wondering. The Subaru has a filter there that leads to the intake (or Turbo) system so it makes sense to have that. Do you just have a hole in the hood cut out and nothing below??

If you are mounting a system (like the old XRC shaker set-up) that acutally draws that airflow to the intake than I would understand but it does not look like you are doing that.

....or is it just to look cool?

I definately like the way it looks, regardless of if it works or not. Even if it doesn't draw air striaght to the intake, it would still blow over the engine which will help a little bit.

Damn, somebody else had this same scoop a few years back. Remember seeing it at the XRC show. Anyone else from back in the day remember how his set up was?

Why I may not like the idea, I think it looks good and was done the RIGHT way which is something that I always respect. Your car looks like it has come a long way and is definitly something to be proud of! Don't let a few people discourage you...

And Bob, that was the DJ's car at the show. His name escapes me right now but I think it was DJ Skribble...I dunno

and p.s. I know this site is for people to get feedback on their cars and what not. But if you don't like it, let's limit the smiley use to one or two...lol That was a little excessive there bud...

Yeah, I'm not trying to discourage you, as Jeff seems to be hinting that I am trying to do, but, it may help the looks of your car, and who knows, with the extra cooling, may extend engine life. If you want some serious tips, just ask us....... We ALL have experience with what works, and doesn't work..... good and bad.

We can be a bunch of smart asses when someone comes on here and says they just got a new rear spoiler, and it made their car go bazoom! faster down the road, with 200hp to the driver's seat...... That's a flame waiting to happen. (Something has happened like that before, sounds stupid, but it HAS happened, and WILL happen again. Guaranteed.)

If you want some kick to your car, try a light build if you know how to rebuild motors. I am starting on mine here in a month as soon as I get my engine block cleaned, bored, and painted.. (Money..... can't spend what you don't have.)

I respect him, not for his scoop fabrication, but for his willingness to go out there and put forth an effort to improve a saturn and to do it right. If you hook that directly to your intake, you will need a filter. Otherwise, the added cold air in the engine bay will reduce engine temps. WIN WIN

Seems to me he will need more than a filter. I sure wouldn't want to be the one sucking water into my engine

                            Uhhh.

You ever seen a cold air intake? They're RIGHT next to the ground, right in the open, and yet.. Hydrolock is a rarity. The only time it does happen, is when you fully submerge the filter (driving through a puddle, for example).

If the filter is above your engine, you've got some other issues to worry about if it's going to be submerged.

Most of the cold air intakes I've seen have a bypass in case it tries to suck up water. I thought he was going for a ram air type of set-up, which I think would be a little tricky
