  • Glasspack length??

I'm looking into putting a glasspack between the cat and my Bomz muffler on my 96' SL2 to quiet it down a bit. I was thinkinking of a Cherry Bomb 22" but i dont really know if that will quiet it down a good amount or not. Should i go longer? I'd like it to still sound cooler than stock but not like it is right now where all the non-car enthusiast passengers get annoyed as hell and can't talk every time i accelaerate or get up to 70mph. Also..what sounds/is better? Dynomax Thrush Magnum or Cherry Bomb???

mine is like 25 26 inches around and it quieted it down a lot. Thrush Magnum Glasspack for your reference.

Well, it's almost time for me to redo my exhaust.....just bought a thrush magnum 25 inch glasspack today.....but my setup consists of a high flow cat, glasspack, then custom piping, to a magnaflow muffler...and all the inlets and outlets will have 2.25 inch piping, also with an OBX header. My question: Is my backpressure going to be too low? I've heard that 2.25 is about the max i can go, which is fine, but with the minimal performance enhancement i'm doing, is this too much? I don't think it is, but let me know though please.

every time people say backpressure is good, god kills a tony danza

you don't ever want backpressure, it's a result of restriction. you want velocity, peak of which reached at a useful RPM level.

please do a search, I swear we answer this once a month, there should be a thread or two still around on it.

perhaps a sticky about backpressure would be in order?

I was always under the impression that on a n/a application some amount of backpressure was good, and with the varied exhaust diameter/varied backpressure you could "tune" your powerband. For example, my Dad runs a 2" exhaust, I run a 2 1/4". His car has alot more low end (2500-3000), where as mine will start to pull more mid-rance (3500-4000). On the other hand, I suppose my car breaths better. It pulls harder, and will out run my Dads car. His seems to rev quickly, but not pull as hard... Both cars have similar modifications.
