  • Confirmed RL Filter Setup

OK.... got my car back and it took me 10 minutes to start fucking with shizit again... so here we go again

First off had the cut airbox/no snorkel k&n gimmick running for about 10 months now... haven't been happy with it.. time to time i get oil on the O2 sensor and it has to be cleaned.. also if you ever po your top and rev the engine good you'll see that the s/c pulls enough air to make the rubber tubing collapse upon itself thus cutting off air which means cutting off hp

SHORT VERSION... Stock = bad... k&n = Bad

now the aem and the k&n systems both are quite a bit of money and they really aren't gonna help things much becuase the turn to much and have small inlets...

    AEM & K&N after market = Bad

Now i give this to RicerSam aka Rizzo because he did it first and i gave him shit for it but after doing it... he was right.

Now this is actually cheaper and easier than the k&n filter swap that most of us have done or are gonna do....

Auto zone HighTemp plastic universal intake = $22
Auto zone Matching High flow bigass filter = $19
    3" to 3" pipe joint = $6

    and 20 minutes

It has a slot for the MAF it has a plug for the Breather line and it all screw together... now you have a rigid system that does not collapse on itself and a higher flowing filter than a k&n or a dry AEM... I thought autozone ws only formexicans.. guess not.

Now after installing this i went and ran down the street a few times... no shit.. it was actually a noticeable throttle response increase as well as a slightly harder pull.. and its a lot phukn louder because the plastic resonates the s/c noise....

also the total price is cheaper than just your regular filter... i goota make that clear... this is probably the cheapest upgrade for performance increase you can do.

yes its a universal 3" kit... its nice.. if you spend an exta 5 bucks you get a matching maf sensor peice too... its tits for the price.

my only issue with this is that a lot of people with a short ram setup like that were throwing codes (I believe lean) from turbulence over the MAF. Ironically enough, none of them were in FL, go figure.

I will say this, I've installed 2 or 3 K&N systems in the past few weeks, and I'm way more impressed with them once I got them in my hands as opposed to when I saw them initially. And the gain is very noticable, especially up in the high RPM range. IMO, the K&N is worth ever penny. Only thing I would change is to pick up one of the Dry-Flow filters so oil is no longer a matter to deal with.

Don't get me wrong, teh modular setup probably works great, more so than the original VinTek design (which after all was spawned after a 12 pack), but not as much as the K&N

you don't want to go with something like this on an sl2. the idea on the LSJ is to reduce pumping losses for the air being drawn into the blower thanks to the shorter path, as opposed to the vaccuum your stock build sl2 will make.

we actually had a guy on here who had a filter on his throttle body and I built him an intake out of pipe stock. he cut down roughly half a second. a typical s-car short ram design will gain over it, if not a full out cold air intake.

wait so u said he had the filter right on the tb? ive seen that before

and then u made him a full length short ram? and that was faster?

and that if i got something like aem it would be fater than that even?

you get to a point where the air isn't going to reach velocity before entering the TB if the piping is too short. that and in stock form, that engine isn't drawing enough air in to take advantage of that.

I was just saying as an example, we went from filter on throttle body to a short ram that was 2 1/2" ID and it shaved .5 seconds off. it also didn't die as much in the mid level RPMs.

If you've ever driven an s-series with a short ram, and then with a cold air, you can tell the difference is drastic right there, a lot more power mid to up top, which is where you want it when racing.

yeah well i have an auto right now so thats not an option, if i get a sc2 im just gonna not give a damn about switching it but if i dont get an sc2 i will swap the trans, but im really leaning towards just getting an sc2 and leaving this car alone cuz i really need a 2nd car with as many miles as im putting on this one and if i can find one that needs some work it will cost about the same.

I like those V2 AEM Intakes. They should make them for redlines.

its a spectre kit... i just remembered the name of it... im gonna buy another 90 and a stright line and extend it to the opening infront of the intercooler.... that should make a huge differance.

now your'e thinking, or maybe down a bit into the fender well area, still a high pressure spot.
