P0440 Trouble Code

I recently bought a 2003 VUE w/ 3.0 and 22,300 miles . Is this common? What is the fix?? What parts do I need??

what's the actual info on the code? the number doesn't really ring a bell

Evap Emissions Malfunction, or something like that.

sounds dumb, but make sure your gas cap is tight. maybe remove it and put it back on. I know that some people get a code when their cap isn't sealed or when really low on fuel, or both. I'd start there unless someone else thinks I'm out in left field on this one.

I checked the gas cap and filled up with fuel yet the SES light is on. Do I need to reset?? I have the tool to do so.

try that, clear the code out and see if it comes back under certain conditions

UPDATE: I cleared the code and it has not come back. I am a little surprised that it did not clear it on its own. Then again there may be another problem but so far so good.

I takes so many key on/key off cycles to turn it's self off. The light will also come on if you gas up with the engine running.
