• pacesetter header is on....

I ordered the black pacesetter header from gravana about 2 months ago and its been sitting in my friends garage ever since. Last night we took the stock manifold and cat out. Btw, if anyone else is planning on doing this, and you're having a hard time unbolting the manifold from the cat, just unbolt all the other stuff and pull the damn thing up through the engine bay. Had my friend listened to me we would've been done with the whole process 2 hours earlier. But anyway, we bolted the header on last night and took it for a drive. The car idled really low and didn't like low rpms at all. On the initial test drive we went up a small hill, but I was driving as I always do and the damn thing died on the hill. So we get to the muffler shop this morning and they welded a downpipe, my highflow cat, and a straight pipe to mount up to my catback for $50. So I pick the car up around 9:30 this morning and when i turned the car on, it idled normal while I was checking everything out under the hood, but after 2 or 3 mins. it started to die. So I tried to get it home, keeping the rpms around 2k and pulled out on the main road in front of the shop and it flooded out and tried to die again...

I finally got it home, unhooked the battery completely for 10 mins, hooked it back up, and it works fine now. The ses light went off, it idles fine, and it drives great.

nah, I don't have any pics yet.

I hope it doesn't crack, but if it does, I'll just have to replace it.

I don't think they crack, but the black painted ones have an issue of rusting out pretty fast.

If I were you, I'd take this opportunity to save again for the purchase of a pacesetter armour-coated header this time.

I went the safe route, and got a stock manifold ported out ALA Green Monstah. Thanks again Jay. Everything should be installed sometime this week finally.

I herd that the ones for the s cars do crack but have never had one. I used a 91 header on my s car.

It's the Hotshot headers that crack. I've got one (cracked) on my car. Fortunately it also came with a 91 OEM header that the previous owner never got around to installing. Once I have the time and money I'm going to pick up a high flow cat, and use that and the OEM header to replace the cracked Hotshot and the ancient cat on the car now.

I've heard Pacesetter exhausts, headers, etc. do rust out quickly, especially in the snow belt. We'll have to see how this one lasts.

i have a pacesetter on my car and it works good, but yeh it rusted in a little less then a month of putting it on. Plus my car smelled like burning paint for about a week cause the all the black paint burned right off . oh well, it still works good.

The 3rd gen OBX header cracks at the flange, if you do not weld a bracket before the flex pipe (at least thats what I was told while researching parts for my build)

and the OBX is a cheap copy of the hotshot. I am not sure how the pacesetter holds up!

pacesetter header is thicker and holds up fine. ive had one for almost 2 years with plenty of mileage on it, and even after being mashed against the subframe and engine, it didnt not crack. it was up to temp and water was being dumped on it since it was raining, yet only had a few dents and i think it tweaked the primaries, but nothing more. and luckily it didnt bust a hole in my block.

but the paint is not high temp paint, and it even says that. why it was painted, my guess is just to keep rust off while shelved. and of course it will rust, its just like mild steel. other problem with pacesetter, the nuts for the downpipe to header have nylon rings in them to keep nut snug, which of course heat from the exhaust melts it and nuts come loose, so get lock washers.
