  • why does rpms drop so much and shake?

i don't know if this is a question that can easily be answered without seeing it, but every time i'm at a stop position and give it gas to move, if i barely let go of the clutch the rpms drop quickly and if i give it gas to compensate the car begins to shake ALOT! i go thru alot of upper engine mounts because of this. everytime i put a new mount in its good for about a week than it starts to do it again! i have polyurethane inserts in the lower mount (about 2 mons old) and a twistec dog bone tranny mount (about 2 yrs old). i have a fidanza lightweight flywheel and i know the rpms drop and raise more freely but damn! i have a dohc with a sohc tranny if that means anything to solve the problem. has this happened to anyone else? could this be a crankshaft problem? i have to gas it about 2,200 rpms to kinda take off smoothly without it shaking. i have no a/c so thats not draining the engine power to move. i'm confused and nervous, cuz i'm movin to florida in a week and i'm haulin a small trailer. i don't want to get stranded somewhere. any help, would be a big help. thanks.

did you replace the clutch recently? it sounds like clutch chatter combined with a hydraulic system that may be a little slacked. or whatevrer youd call it. i mean its engaging closer to the floor. does it feel that way?

no its actually still engaging to the saturn norm. further out. i had the clutch replaced about 9 mons ago. and if i recall correctly it did that with the old clutch too.

that's why it bogs like that, lighter flywheel = less momentum

could be the car bucking from almost stalling, or like Ryan said chatter and an old hydraulic assembly

so i shouldn't be too worried, like it won't kill the engine or tranny or clutch or anything? just bog and deal with it? i'm just worried about my drive to fl next week. and i'm also pondering getting a tranny cooler for the trip but i haven't seen any for manual tranny just automatics.

You have to rev the car a little higher to compensate for the loss of momentum you're getting with the lightweight flywheel.

Do you by chance have an ACT 6 puck? Mine does that if you dont dump it properly.

i dont rev mine any higher then i use to with my stock clutch. actually with my aluminum flywheel, i usually rev up less to take off. i dont bog or nothing. i rev up to maybe 1200 then ease out or i just let the clutch out slow without any gas and it will take off just fine then too.

but now is this only happening with the clutch being released or does it last a bit through the rpms?

just with the clutch being released at the starting point

um...that'd be doubleclutchinsl2 that said that, not me. i don't know enough about cars to fully understand that...

my names ryan too. hi ryan.
was the lightweight flywheel used or something? heat checks on the surface of it could do the chatter thing.
