  • Please Help!!! Short Throw Question

I just installed my Short Throw shifter.

I bought it off ebay last year for like $30 but for some reason it sticks in some gears??? is it supposed to do that. I notice if mostly in 4th gear.

Is there some one on here that can make me a short throw that wont stick or maybe fix this one?

well im in the process right now of building a true short throw. im raising the pivit point about 1/2" (havent done the measurements yet to find what to go with) and lower the, ah damn brain fart! the other piece on the outside that works when the shifter moves side to side. SHIT! i cant think!

but anyways, sounds like you got yourself a bad shifter. do you have a picture of it? i bet anything the stick was cut down and thats it.

No It wasn't just cut on the top. They cut the botom and welded a small piece of metal rod in to lengthen the bottem end of the shifter as well as cut the top. I going to take a few pics in a min and then I will post them.

oh my, that uh looks like he either raised the wrong portion or just welded there for no reason. id say that shifter is your problem, put your stock one back in.

see what im going to do is, where the actual pivit point sets in the plastic, im putting a plate under that to raise the pivit point. thats 1 part to the short throw. next i drill a new hole lower in the shaft to drop that center selector cable. then im going to extend the other selector (looks like an L) the same amount as i raised the pivit point. this keeps the cables in the same spot as factory, but with the raised pivit point, the shifts are shorter.

from what i understand, sps only cuts the stocks down thats it. im not for sure, but its what ive been told.

i havent messed with it yet because of the meet tomorrow, but in the picture the arm off to the top notice the red line. im going to cut there and add a piece in same thickness as what the pivit riser pad will be. the dot on the bottom represents the new hole for that cable hook up. and the arrow points to where the shim goes to raise pivit point. once i get the thing completely apart, im going to sand it and either paint it or powdercoat it (depending on price). of course this one will be tested on my car first before making them for others, so i dont run into problems like what your having.

Where is the spacer block? Tha lack of the block is causing the cables to bind .

What spacer block? On his or mine?

What thickness does it need to be?

On my shifter all the person did was basically cut the top and then cut the bottom and weld about a 1/2 inch piece of steel rod in to lengthen the bottom shaft.

So because he just dropped it and didn't raisthe whole shifter asembly it is causing the cable to bind hence the shifter not working?

thats my thinking. its seems like its binding up.

oh and i will be starting on my probably tomorrow. ill have it completely apart and have a spacer and just do anything. that is if it doesnt rain, my car looks too purdy to get out of the garage
