Not to be a dick Ryan, but theres no way in hell you got to 92 in 3rd. When i had my QC all motor, I would hit the limiter in 3rd, change to 4th, and still onlytrap 87 mph at the track. The redline tranny goes 94 at the top of 3rd.

um, the redline will break into triple digits in 3rd. just barely, but it will. i don't know about the automatics though

No, it wont. Last time i went to the track, i was bouncing of the limiter in 3rd as i crossed the line and trapped 94. We can go round a round with this but it will not go into triple digits.

when i was pullin away from a semi on 27 a couple weeks ago, i hit the limiter in 3rd. speedo was just over 90, right in 91-92 territory. and from radar guns "your speed is:" things i've passed, my speedo appears to be accurate.

dunno then. could be differences in our speedo's, tachs, the radar gun at the track, VSS, ECM....lotta variables...

you could have saved the money from the K&N Drop-In, octane booster, and tank of non-87 octane for parts that would help you go faster.

the radar gun at the track is accurate, I'd trust it more than your speculation. I've gone over the same thing with you before in a thread, you didn't hit 92 in 3rd gear unless your tires are larger than the original OD, so rotations would be off, and it would say it's slower than it is in reality. considering you have stock wheels, it's doubtful that's the case.

ok man. i can only report what i saw before i shifted to fourth. if it happens again, i'll try to get a pic or something. until then, we can run in circles arguing like this. and we'd be just like the people on the springer show: entertaining everyone else and changing nobody's mind.

just thought of something...i have the same size rims as other ion-2 QC's, but i don't have the regular tires they came with. mine has the firehawks on it, which are lower in profile, so could that raise the speed which my speedo is showing?

you know what, it sure would. if the tires are lower profile and dont' have same ratio to the tread as the original ones would have, that would make for more rotations in comparison to before due to the smaller OD, like comparing two different sized pullies basically.

if that's the case, then that's why your speedo says that.

yeah, i'd say the firehawks are at least an inch smaller in diameter than the other ion's tires i've seen my dealer.

which would also explain why at 35 and 40 those radar things are still accurate with my speedo, but higher up i'm a few MPH off... so i wasn't seeing things after all.

yep, sure would, that makes perfect sense

that's actually a little trick we do with our sets of "fuck around tires" to get a simulated shorter gear ratio. with smaller diameter it can in some cases help your accelleration quite a bit.
