  • Need new Midbass

    right now I have Kicker SSMB6 6.5"s

They sound pretty good to me, I'm sure most of the audiophiles will cringe, zomg Kicker run away but whichever. Anywho I'm looking for a new set. Must be 6.5", and I need them to be really shallow. The Kicker's I have are 2 1/16" mounting depth. I need something pretty close to that if possible. Any suggestions?

Upgrade your components up front. With a good set of components, midbass speakers are rarely ever needed. Make sure the doors are properly sealed.

But, I bet you have the midbass speakers in the rear deck, right? If so, you need to seal them. Build them a small enclosure under the rear deck, about .2^ft each after displacement. They are made for small sealed enclosures and generally do not sound good free air.

2 way speakers are not midbass speakers.

I have infinity components up front. The Kickers I have now are advertised as "free air" and honestly I'm not that interested in building an enclosure. I know that's optimum and all but I'm just looking for a decent speaker to throw into the gaping hole back there. It has to be shallow though like i mentioned. If it comes down to it I'll just get another set of the Kicker's I have now.

lol, that's not midbass, that's a component set. I new Midbass speakers lol. 2, speakers, 1-way, no tweeters, looks kinda like a mini sub.

                like this \/

You don't need to put rear speakers in. Most sound quality cars don't even use rear speakers, mine included.

You probably won't. There is almost no demand for midbass speakers, so almost no companies make them.

alright, then what would you rec. I stick in those holes? 2,3-ways? anything?

would it be harmful to put 2 or 3-ways back there to the sound?

Must be shallow and if I get another 2 or 3 way I would probably want to go with Infinity's back there as well.

I wouldn't put anything, it ruins imaging. If money is burning a hole in your pocket, upgrade your components.

I run them in my 96 SC2 (front doors) and they jam really good blend really well with my sub
