of course they are higher intensity. Note High Intensity Discharge.
The problem isn't are HID's bright enough, its are they too bright for the headlamp they are installed in. And in your case ....... yes they are.
All light above the cutoff line is BAD. It goes up into the air and doesn't illuminate the road. All it does is affects oncoming traffic. The idea is to get it as bright as possible below the cutoff line, and the smallest amount of light about it.

Consider this: 800 hp is a lot on a 2.0L motor. With 750hp, three-quarters of a thousand you're basically dealing with 6.14 hp per cubic inch. Pressures and stresses of all kinds thermal and mechanical loading across the board escalate to extreme levels. A Chevrolet 5.7-liter LS1 V8 with this much specific power (horsepower per cubic inch) would be making 2,137 hp
Yup, HID's were originally designed for projector housings, that is why the factory stuff is better on the road and alot of people with the aftermarket stuff complain that it sucks in the rain.

well Projectors are the best hands down. But there are plenty cars out that use reflectors and HIDs. The difference is that those reflectors were specifically designed for HIDs, not halogens. Granted HID reflectors don't give off that crisp colorful cutoff like projectors, but they also dont spit light out all over the place either.
yeah I agree on all acounts, I keep hearing debates on other forums (including VW) and wanted to test the waters here since this is my home(lol). As far as the rain YES it sucks on roads with no or dark markings same goes for fog, the worst is actualy when the sun is setting and you come up around a turn in the dark area and the road has no marks. All of this could be fixed if I replaced my scratched to hell windshield. these cuurent HID's will stay in my car until I can fab something for projectors then I will fab out my foglights to fit the current HID's.
