if you have a place do it, make sure they actually know what they're doing, cause i've heard of guys fudging up wiring and peoples cars just shuting off while they're driving. sucks. BTW i really don't know anything about switching ur locks so i can't help you there. u might just want to find a car that has the power shite in it and swap the doors and do all da wiring urself, if ur into that.

there's plenty of guys on here that know lots more about swapping stuff than i do anyway, especially electrical... i try to stay away from that stuff if i can.

Wiring is easy, just buy the factory actuators and go to http://www.autoloc.com and get the rest. nothing to it. You can buy a remote start kit at any autoparts store for around $100. The locks are the expensive part, but it wont be anywhere near $1000.

Yes, you will need to run the relays with the actuators. Saturn did prewire some things, their locking system was not one of them.
Also, what year is your SL1?

You have to run all your own wiring into the door. Or at least I did in my '02 SL. Saturn didn't prewire there either.
It's a possibility in your car that the relays are there, I'm not familiar with pre-96 Saturns, but I don't think that they are, again, they weren't on my car.

where are you located nv? ive been installing this stuff for about 8 years now, and can really lead you through a lot of the process. hell if you were local id install everything for you for free, so long as you supplied all of the needed parts.

to add power door locks you can get any aftermarket actuators and use them, youll have to run your own wiring into the doors and such, as the only wires in your front doors will be for the speakers.

Doing a remote start on a manual car is very simple, just be sure to leave it in neutral. It also helps to start the car that way, as you dont have to press in the clutch during those cold starts, which some will argue is significant wear and tear on the engine.

Feel free to send me some pm's if you have questions, hell you can even call if you want. 615-376-0539 ext. 41

Has anyone from this board added Power Locks to an SL1? I suppose its just a matter of putting actuators in the door to pop the lock right? I know I make that sound so easy but Im sure these car audio places can do it. I just didn't know what kind of price range I was getting into there.

Thoughts?
Others are right when stated that Saturn did not pre-wire the power lock option. Mike Silva told us how to do the lock swap on SaturnFans and i'll transplant it here to the best of my ability

You will need

1. Lock actuators (they are riveted in, so you'll have to drill the rivets out)
2. Wiring for the power locks and/or windows from a 1991-1994 Saturn (the relays were in the wiring harness, so you dont have to mess with the inside fuse box)
3. Interior door handle assy and lock switch
4. A day to work with.

You can find the parts at a junkyard, but if you have another parts car, great. The wiring harness is a whole harness for the interior. Dont even bother taking the whole harness. Cut open the harness in the car and pull out all the wiring for the locks and/or windows. This will take quite some time, but will be worth it in the end. You do not have to swap doors, all you need is the hardware inside. Once you drill the rivets out for the lock actuators, bolt them in your current doors. Your current doors should have previsions for them.

BTW dont go through an audio shop. They'll charge you an arm and a leg to do it, plus they will probably try to convince you to use a universal kit. OEM is the best IMHO. An audio shop will do a good job and should come with a warrenty though. Good luck!

Nope you CAN do an Auto Start on an Automatic. My Eclipse the car before this one was a stick so I didn't have the play I do with this one
let me rephrase...

pretty much. My RKE (bulldog deluxe 500) is auto and manual capable, and has its own set of wires for manual cars. All i gotta do is cross 1 wire and splice in 2 more and cut the little transmission loop and i can have it for a manual. It wont let the car start if the shifter is in any gear. Dunno how that works though.
