  • Saturn Tail light Question

Hey guys, I'm new to the board, I just have one quick question and maybe a few more as my SL2 progresses. First off, I own a 5 speed '94 SL2. I did a few little things to it, painted the badges, cd player, speakers, intake, sawed down my shifter... Nothing major though. I am looking to build it up this summer, possibly get a turbo. But for now I am just wondering on a quick basic exterior question. Is there a way to remove the "TWIN CAM" sticker off the rear reflector? Sanding? Well thanks for your help in advance, and got any other cheap, quick things to do for now before winter starts?

I believe the only way to remove it would be to sand down the housing, but that would leave the light dull. What you can do though is get some transparent candy apple red Testors model paint or NiteShades Tail Light Tint and paint the taillight. If you get it dark enough, you wont be able to see the DOHC. Or you could swap to a single cam rear panel and paint it to match the car.

What Jeff said all works ^^^.

You might be able to get some 1k-2K sandpaper and slowly work that Twin Cam logo off the plastic. You can clear coat it when you are finished (you will have to clear both ends and the center to make it match) or you may even be able to just wax the finish back if you stick to a VERY fine grit.

Never done it, just a thought.

I personally used the VHT Nightshades on my rear tails. If you screw up the center panel, you can always get the SOHC center panel and paint it to match the car.

Well, I was thinking of taping off a rectangle around the "TWIN CAM" thing and then using real fine grit paper to remove it. Then once it is off, (It is on the outside correct?) I was thinking of leaving the tape on and just spraying that one little rectangle with clear coat... But I was searching for the night shades, any place where I can find a kit for my car?

Niteshades is expensive, between $12-15 a can. Go to your local WalMart. Krylon makes a transparent black paint, called "Crystal Color", and it's $3 a can. Works just as well.

Yes, it works just like niteshades. All depends on how much much you put on. Only ting is it scrathes a little easier then Niteshades does, but a few coats of clear takes care of that.

either that or you could get an SL1 piece and slap that on there that way there's no reflector on the back at all. thats what i did on my 96. i think it looks a lot cleaner.

Quick question, I'm going to experiment with this krylon stuff, just wondering what you niteshades guys use for clearcoating.

I tried it(the clearcoat) on my reflector and it turned milky white ruining my tint, so I had to fix that, but I was told it did that from the humidity(it rained a little later). As far as the clear black I think it comes out a clossy color, compared to VHTniteshade which is flat black almost primer looking. This may come out better once the clearcoat is on, I went with a profesional to clear mine since it makes or breaks the car.
