• the annoying seatbelt crap

So on my 94 sl1 the motor for the seatbelt-hook-thingey is dying or something. it'll go back all the way (thankfully) but it only goes up a few inches... so i actually have to unhook it to get out comfortably now :P

but yeah, how can i figure out whats wrong with it?

Might be the motor but the first thing I would check is the track. Make sure the track is nice and greasy, if it has become very dry that may cause problems. Get some grease or spray grease or even WD would probably work and try that first.

If the motor is gone, it's not that hard to swap out the motor/track system and I am sure you could find one from a junkyard.

ok cool will check what you said (one day)

since its getting cooler outside i'm goign to be working on getting my car back to nicer condition. Gotta get it ready to sell/trade in, and i'd like it to be in best condition as possible so i can get the most money out of it.

If you want the most money out of the vehicle, you will want to sell it privately.

If you trade it in, small things like the seatbelt not moving forward will not hurt you much (if at all), your car is too old and will be picked up by a wholesaler vs. being re-conditioned for the lot.(unless you are going to a buy here-pay here type of lot)

The only time we kept any cars that old is if they were really mint with low mileage.

If you want to clean it up and get it working to sell it yourself, then you can make a few bucks but going through lots of work to trade it in is a waste of time IMO.

i'm hoping to score when some dealership has a "push it in, toe it in, whatever and get a few grand for your trade int" type of deal, but if i have to sell privately, although i doubt i'll get much either way (get it in decent condition myself and sell it privately or trade in). The odometer went out at 141,xxx, before we bought the car, and we've had it for a good 2-3 years now. well mostly what i mean is it needs a new seat, i need to put window cranks on it, mix a few loose ends, and a god cleaning. im not talking *lots* of work.

the hardest thing will be removing the system to sell it, lol. i have to tear up so many panels

I'm gonna tell you now, if your car is TMU (Total Miles Unknown) then the value is gonna go through the floor and from the description you are looking at around a 500 dollar trade. Pretty much standard for us for a 1st gen Saturn with TMU. Beyond that is nickels and dimes.

Some dealer may take some profit from the new car and may bluff your trade but that depends on the deal. TMU is a killer and is quite common for S-cars.

yeah i figured that. at this point i'll be happy to get a few hundred dollars off the price of the newer vehicle, or if i sell it privately a few hundred dollars towards insurance (or some rims )
