is it possible on our cars? i've got a 94 sl1 with manual winows... just wondering if its fairly easy to do? im thinking its going to be a PITA because of the fact that the only opening is for the speaker, but i'd like to hear if anyone else has done it...

it's entirely doable. The main thing you want to do is find a 1st gen SL in a salvage yard that has power windows, so you can just start pulling everything out of it. Make sure they aren't gonna charge you an arm & a leg - the salvage yards around here charge like everything's brand new, dispite the saturns sitting in their "bog" section. It's important to note that most of the door stuff you will need to access from outside the car, not inside. That's the beauty of the S-Series - you just take that plastic panel off the door, peel back some plastic sheeting, and everything is magically right in front of you. I have instructions w/pictures for taking the outer door skin off on a 2nd gen - should be very simmilar on the 1st gen.

oh wow i have to take the outer off, hum. that'll be interesting. Can i take the power window parts off any saturn, and what parts will i need? I'm also going to guess that my sl without will have somewhere to mount everything..

finally, the question thats been bugging me for so long, how do i run wires through the door for it? will it be easier with the outer skin off compared to trying to do stuff through that tiny hole for the speaker?

It's WAAAAAY easier with the outer skin off. That's how you access everything in the door. I'd find the donor car, and see where the wires run in it.

          Gotta agree with that.

The wires should run through the rubber sleeve that carries the speaker wires as well from the door-through the doorjam and into the passanger compartment. I don't see why they would not travel through there.

As for mounting locations, all the doors should be the same (for power or non) due to less cost on manufacture but I could be wrong.

As for what years, just to be safe, I would pull from the same generation as your car so you know it will be the same.

The hardest part is gonna be chasing all the wiring down but again even that is just time consuming.

it should just be a few wires for the power windows right? power, ground, and then wires for the switches.. but ya i coudln't find a car at the junkyard yesterday, its the only one that may not charge an arm and a leg

Don't limit your search to SL's either - SWs will definately have the same stuff, and it wouldn't suprise me if everything but the switch would work from an SC. (and heck, that might work too, just would only be able to control the front 2...)

yeah, I was just saying his generation. Wagons are certainly the same and as you said, the coupes are probably just a different switch mount.

These cars are great for swapping between parts.
