• wet sanding

hey, i saw someones tail lights all red, like in this article

    http://www.sixthsphere.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=6477

i was wondering how hard it is and if you suggest not doing it myself. I also have a scuff on my front headlight, about 4 inches long and 2 high. Can this be fixed by wet sanding? Thanks for the help

your best bet, depending on how deep the scuff, would be to buff it with a lite compound, followed by a good polishing - this would be something to do with a rotory buffer NOT an orbital - the results that they provide aren't the best. or a good detail shop.

not hard. just go to walmart or an autoparts store and get some wet/dry sand paper. 1500 will probably fine for you. just get a spray bottle or run your hose over the headlight when and get your paper wet. and remember to keep your paper wet cuz it works better that way. after you got your scuff out then you can take some rubbing compound to it followed by polish. you might look to see if they have plastic specific compound, but the regular kind should work just as well.

yes it can if your buying it there try to go with mequiars (sp), my suggestion would be Race Glaze Fast Action / 3M Fast Cut -> both of those would most likely find at a body/paint supply store. And for the wet sanding, Heres a little trick that most body shops use when doing the final block and color sanding, get a clear spray bottle, put a cap full of your favorite car wash soap ( NOT DISH SOAP), fill you bottle and shake. The soap adds to the lubricity of water makes it really easy for the first timer!!
Remeber start in small circles, and don't press real hard. and if you drop the paper on the ground, THROW IT AWAY, it will have small contaminates that will end up scratching your lens, and then all of your hard work will have been for nothing. Also get good quality sand paper, 3m's ok (parts store type) black ice, merlin are amazing papers, and 3m body/paint shop paper is really good also. if you've got any other question feel free to message me.

one of those is the scuff on the headlight, think fixing that is possible?

also the taillight has that tan around the reverse light? will turning the lights red will it get rid of that? or should i buy new lights?

                        thanks for the input

edit: also bronco, dont worry about that, he emailed me that.. it had nothing to do with packing

don't know about the tail light, but you should be able to fix the headlamp, looks like you almost might be able to just buff that one.

nah, its not just a scuff, its a scratch, use the wet sanding or try finding some plastic polish and rubbing compund.. what do you think?

try wet sanding first start with a good 2k grit paper and do the water + soap in a squirt gun and make sure you do the whole lens (keeps the shade of the plastic even) and then get the rubing compound out and buff it to a shine.
