• Custom wheels - sort of

Just put these on my SL2:

They look aftermarket, but in fact they're a set of OEM teardrop alloys that I sanded smooth and painted myself. I picked up a well used set from a friend that were scratched and tarnished and refinished them after work yesterday. I figured if I was going to paint them anyway, why not give them a custom look while I was at it, so I went for the graphite color rather than the original silver.

I could write up a detailed how-to if people are interested. But basically, I used fine grit sandpaper (220 grit) and an electric sander to smooth out the outer surface, buff out scratches, and such. Then I masked off the tire (obviously no need if there's no tire mounted), and used some wheel paint from the local parts store. One can did two coats on all 4 wheels.

And yes, I need some center caps, painted to match.

Yeah, that was a kind of a crappy shot. I replaced it with a better one showing the whole car. (No, you're not an idiot for not noticing it the first time - it wasn't there. )

You did a good job on those. I have done the same with some Enkei wheels for a friend (gunmetal) and two pairs of the sawtooth II OEM rims in flatblack for my SCCA race tires.

I like them although personally, I would have gone with a different year OEM rim to paint, like the teardrop II's or the sawtooth II's but that's me. I also understand you got them from a friend for free, and I am all about free lol.

                    Nice job.
